HEARTBREAKING CAUSES OF ARMED ROBBERY

Verily, the rate of insecurity in our nation is appalling. Day in and day out, unfortunate civilians get shot and robbed by gunmen on our highways, streets and even in the ghettos. Armed robbery has grown to become a bothering issue. While bandits mercilessly cheat and torture hard-working citizens, the police and the army who swore oaths to protect us are sometimes outsmarted by these gangsters. Could it be that our security personnel are not well equipped? Honestly, let’s investigate the causes of armed robbery in the following paragraphs.

Unemployment is an instigator of armed robbery. Lack of jobs is the number one ceremony which outdoors a lot of these criminals. Like it’s famously said, ‘the devil finds work for the idle hands’. Armed robbers are illegally self-employed youth who wrote millions of application letters and got rejected.  After trying unsuccessfully to secure white collar jobs, they forcibly lay their hands on illicit and life-threatening blue-collar jobs. If we wish to reduce robbery cases, one workable solution is to create employment. The youth should be actively engaged in all sectors of the economy where they are duly qualified to serve. Also, instead of imprisoning arrested armed robbers, we might want to enlist some of them into the army or police department. Since most robbers are good snipers, I recommend that they should be deployed for peacekeeping missions.

Also, we can’t forget that some armed robbers are lazy individuals who desperately desire to get rich without sweating. Their unquenchable taste for luxurious materials such as mansions, fashionable cars, beautiful women, comfortable life and fame motivates them to pick weapons to harass their victims. As they set out to commit heinous crimes, armed robbers prepare themselves to face any resistive forces who try to foil their missions. Due to this, they arm themselves with machetes, pump action guns, cartridges and sophisticated weapons such AK-47 assault rifles. To our utter dismay, our police and the military are sometimes outgunned by the robbers. However, we must cheer those instances where our abled security men properly returned fire and successfully neutralized those bloodthirsty culprits.

Weak gun control laws also contribute to the proliferation of dangerous weapons. When police and military arsenals aren’t properly guarded, thieves ransack and loot dangerous weapons from warehouses. These weapons are then bought by robbers and used to attack or scare people to surrender so as to enable them to confiscate properties. It is scarce to meet a robber without a weapon. This the reason for which they are called, “armed robbers”. They always possess firearms to inflict pains on their victims and sometimes they even kill. Stricter gun laws must be enacted to ensure that criminals do not effortlessly get access to guns.

Also, I would like to controversially state that irresponsible citizens create fertile atmospheres for armed robbers. For example, common sense tells us that it is risky for a mobile money operator to transact businesses late in the night. Like I previously described, armed robbers are money-loving but lazy people. They can smell and detect sources of money. As responsible citizens, we should be smart to predict sources of danger and take safety precautions. It is true to state that, some citizens are friends to armed robbers. A responsible citizen should be ready to inform police about suspicious criminals. Failure of civilians to expose the hideouts of armed robbers, we make their operations unpreventable.

Finally, just as outlined above, some causes of armed robbery include unemployment, desire for riches, improper gun control (which leads to proliferation of weapons) and irresponsible citizens.  Accordingly, jobs should be created for the youth to ward them off from nursing wicked thoughts to pick up guns. Government must adequately resource our security personnel with up-to-date defensive hardware and soft equipment. These could be used to combat crimes. Weapons in military warehouses should be securely guarded against looters. Also, arrested armed robbers should be properly disciplined or rehabilitated. More importantly, citizens should cooperate with security agencies by relaying useful information about criminal activities. These measures could greatly help to diminish the rate of armed robbery cases.
